Cuarteto Casals (Vera Martinez Mehner, violin;
Abel Tomas Realp, violin; Jonathan Brown, viola;
Arnau Tomas Realp, cello)
This rapidly-rising young Spanish quartet, making its Houston debut,
took first prize in the 2000 London International String Quartet Competition.
Presenting music of their compatriot
Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, the so-called
“Spanish Mozart” who died in Paris at the age of 19, the quartet also
performs the popular quartet that Dvorak composed during his American
sojourn and Brahms’s beautiful String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2.

“Here is a quartet for the new millennium if ever I heard one.”
