Allen Chen

Trumpeter Allen Chen has performed in a wide range of venues, including Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, Boston’s Symphony Hall, and Jones Hall in Houston. He was recently appointed 1st trumpeter of the Houston Brass Quintet. Mr. Chen has performed with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Sinfonia da Camera, Neponset Valley Philharmonic, Dallas Wind Symphony, and the Discovery Ensemble. He was a fellow at the International Festival Institute at Round Top in 2009 and has attended numerous chamber music festivals including the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, the International Institute at Domaine-Forget, and the Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar.

Mr. Chen also has a keen interest in the British Brass Band tradition. He is member of the Houston Brass Band where he holds the flugelhorn chair. A passionate educator, Mr. Chen maintains a private teaching studio and holds clinics and masterclasses for students in numerous schools across the greater Houston area. Since 2014, Mr. Chen has collaborated with American Festival for the Arts on a project to create an after-school chamber music program at the YES Prep School Southeast campus.

Mr. Chen completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Illinois and received a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory. His principal teachers have included Michael Ewald, Ronald Romm, Benjamin Wright, and Thomas Rolfs. Outside of his musical activities, Mr. Chen is a competitive archery athlete and is a certified USA Archery Instructor.
