August Ramos

August Ramos is currently pursuing a master’s degree in double bass performance at Rice University in the studio of Paul Ellison. Mr. Ramos has participated in many summer festivals including the Aspen Music Festival and School, Music Academy of the West, and the Tanglewood Music Center.

Throughout his career, Mr. Ramos has always made efforts to demonstrate the capacity of the double bass as a solo instrument, often through competitions. In 2013, he won second prize in the Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, was a winner of the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition, and in 2014, he won the TexASTA solo competition. In 2015, he was the winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs Student/Collegiate Auditions, Double Bass Classification. In 2016, he was a semifinalist in the Houston Symphony’s Ima Hogg Concerto Competition.

Mr. Ramos is also an accomplished orchestral musician, having performed with multiple professional orchestras, including the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. He currently performs regularly with KINETIC: The Conductorless Ensemble. In 2017, he graduated with bachelor’s degree from Rice University as a double bass student of Timothy Pitts. Mr. Ramos is a Young Artist with Da Camera of Houston for the 2017-2018 season.
