Chelsea de Souza is a pianist from Mumbai, India. A Steinway Young Artist, she has won four All-India piano competitions, the 2010 IIYM international piano competition, and the Global Scholar-Education World Young Achievers Award in Music and Arts. A committed performer of music by living composers, Ms. de Souza has premiered numerous works for solo piano and small ensemble, and has performed with the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Peabody Institute’s Modern Orchestra, and with acclaimed ensemble Alarm Will Sound, among others. As a singer, she was co-director of Oberlin’s longest-running female a cappella group, Nothing But Treble. Ms. de Souza holds bachelor’s degrees in politics, piano, and vocal accompanying from Oberlin College and Conservatory, and a master’s degree in piano performance from the Peabody Institute. She is now pursuing her doctorate at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music with Jon Kimura Parker.
