The music of composer Jonathan Booker has been performed in several locations throughout the United States, and he has been commissioned by a variety of organizations, including the Aura Contemporary Ensemble, Houston Grand Opera’s HGOco and the Flute Studio at the Lamont School of Music. Mr. Booker is the winner of the 2014-2015 Sarofim Composition Award and has been recognized by such organizations as the Robert Avalon International Composers Competition, the Other Competition at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, and the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Mr. Booker holds a master’s degree in composition from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, where he studied with Rob Smith. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in composition from Seattle Pacific University. He attended the Composers Symposium at the Oregon Bach Festival with Chen Yi.
Along with composing, Jonathan is dedicated to music education. In addition to teaching piano lessons, he has served as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Houston where he instructed theory and aural skills classes for undergraduates.
