Praising pianist Sarah Rothenberg — “Her keyboard depicted everything from blustery gusts of wind and dramatic flashes of lightning, to the protagonist’s own leaping, racing heartbeat and the delicate drops of his frozen tears.” — Skelly notes that “baritone Tyler Duncan was a near ideal interpreter.”
Steven Brown of Texas Classical Review also raved about the performance. Writing about baritone Tyler Duncan, he writes “His voice encompassed gravity, mellowness, full-throated vehemence and an occasional ghostly whisper. At times, Duncan sang with such naturalness and ease that the music came across as directly as if he had been speaking.” And he praised Rothenberg as well saying “Rothenberg complemented Duncan all the way. She established the walking pace that helped some songs set their scenes, and her playing helped created the churning restlessness of some songs and the starkness of others.”
