FINDING HOME AT ORTIZ MIDDLE SCHOOL
Ortiz Middle School is located in Southeast Houston, west of I-45 and north of Sims Bayou. Close to Hobby Airport, the Golfcrest, Bellfort, and Reveille neighborhood is known for unique restaurants, public art, and historic landmarks including the Orange Show Monument and 1940 Air Terminal Museum. This neighborhood’s rich Hispanic heritage is reflected in these songs from Mexico and Colombia.
La Escuela Intermedia Ortiz está en la sureste del Houston, situado oeste de I-45 y norte de Sims Bayou. También está cerca del Aeropuerto Hobby y los barrios Golfcrest, Bellfort, y Reveille. Este barrio está conocido por sus restaurantes únicos, arte público, y hitos históricos incluidos el Monumento Espectáculo Naranja y el 1940 Museo Terminal de Aire. Cielito Lindo is traditional song composed by Quirino Mendoza y Cortés and shares a message of courage in the face of adversity. It is often sung by crowds at international sporting events but also after natural disasters, such as earthquakes, to bring comfort and hope. Cielito Lindo was selected by students at HISD’s Ortiz Middle School located in the southeast Houston, Golfcrest, Bellfort, and Reveille neighborhood, arranged by DACAMERA Young Artist Jake Sandridge, and performed by the DACAMERA Young Artist String Quartet.
Cielito Lindo es una canción tradicional escrita por Quirino Mendoza y Cortés y comparte una mensaje de valor en la frente de adversidad. También es una canción cantada después de desastres naturales como terremotos para traer consuelo y esperanza. Cielito Lindo fue elegido de los estudiantes en La Escuela Intermedia Ortiz de HISD situado en el sudeste de Houston y los barrios Golfcrest, Belfort, y Reveille, arreglada de un Artista Joven de DACAMERA quien se llama Jake Sandridge y fue tocado por los Artistas Jóvenes de DACAMERA en un cuarteto de cuerdas.
