DACAMERA and The Menil Collection present Stop, Look and Listen!
Live outdoor concert with socially-distanced audience on the Menil Collection’s North Lawn, 1533 Sul Ross Street, between Mandell and Mulberry Streets.
Dave Connor and Friends
Brian Perez, alto saxophone and flute; Jose-Miguel Yamal, keyboard; Daleton Lee, drums; Ingrid Gerling, violin; Jennise Hwang, violin; Rainel Joubert, violin and viola; David Connor, bass
This recently formed ensemble brings together a group of profoundly talented, versatile, and adventurous musicians. It all started when bassist and reluctant bandleader, David Connor got a call to put together an outdoor concert in the midst of the pandemic. At that first show everyone realized there was something special happening on stage. Like the city of Houston, the strength of this ensemble lies in the diverse backgrounds of its eight members who come equally from North and South America. We celebrate and explore the common ground between the worlds of composition and improvisation, classical and jazz, folk and concert music. “David Connor and Friends” performs fresh arrangements of beloved classics with virtuosic solos, lush string textures, and a driving rhythm section; creating a sound that is new, nostalgic, and distinctly Houston.
