Early music titan and visionary performer Jordi Savall leads Le Concert des Nations in music inspired by the 1991 film about gambist/composer Sainte-Colombe, which starred Gérard Depardieu as his upstart pupil Marin Marais. The film introduced many listeners to the astoundingly beautiful music of the early French Baroque. Savall and his Le Concert des Nations performed the soundtrack music and they return to this sublime repertoire in a concert that features poetic music for solo and multiple viols, graceful dances, dramatic character pieces and more.
“Jordi Savall, the Catalan gamba player who performed on the film’s soundtrack and was a pioneer of the Baroque revival in France and Spain, has illuminated the delicate beauty of his instrument and its music for a wide audience…Savall, a bearded, courtly man who seems as dignified as his instrument, made his gamba sing beautifully as well, with a soulful sound and seamless phrasing, especially in selections by Marin Marais.” — The New York Times
“Jordi Savall testifies to a common cultural inheritance of infinite variety. He is a man for our time” — The Guardian
