Da Camera’s annual series of free concerts celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month at Discovery Green kicks off with a big band celebration.

Contemporary jazz, big band classics and original numbers from this 18-piece greater Houston area all-star group led by master drummer Joel Fulgham.
Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome; food, beer and wine are available at the Lake House. No glass containers or outside alcoholic beverages, please.

As a high school student, Joel Fulgham started working as a professional musician with all of the major society bands including Ed Gerlach, Bob Smith, E.C.Holland, Ricky Diaz, Bob Henschen, and others. Fulgham attended North Texas state University where he distinguished himself in a number of ways, including performing with the one o’clock and two o’clock lab bands, playing and recording with the Dallas Jazz Orchestra, the Cosmic Jazz Orchestra, the Pete Vollmers big band, Harvey Anderson’s orchestras, and numerous other professional groups. Fulgham has performed with Theater Under the Stars,The Houston Symphony (Pops), the American Pops Orchestra, David Caceres, Matt Lemmler, Ronnie Renfrow big band, and many others. Fulgham has performed with Andy Williams, Bob Hope, the Smothers Brothers, the Unknown Comic, plus jazz artists Freddy Hubbard, Eddie Harris, Bill Watrous, Joe Henderson, George Coleman, Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Tim Hagans, Arnett Cobb, and David “Fathead” Newman.
