DACAMERA and The Menil Collection present a free outdoor jazz show with the Felix DeLeon Quartet
Felix DeLeon, trumpet; Greg Petito, guitar; David Craig, bass; Nickel Diaz, drums
Born and raised in Houston, Felix DeLeon came from a family of church musicians and learned at an early age to play by ear. He started on piano and wasn’t introduced to the trumpet until high school. After high school, Felix went to college in Miami, Florida, where he studied with the famous trumpet soloist and bandleader Arturo Sandoval. He has shared the stage with Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Chaka Khan, Paquito D’Rivera, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Taylor, David Sanborn, and Nestor Torres. Felix DeLeon has been involved in numerous recordings and concerts across the nation and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards, winning one. He performs with multiple groups in Houston, including the Texas Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Houston Orchestra, and performs regularly at DOC’s Houston.
Stop, Look and Listen! is a series of free chamber music and jazz concerts presented in one of Houston’s most inspiring and stimulating environments, the world-renowned Menil Collection. Admission to the Menil is always free.
