Program
SHOSTAKOVICH: Selected Preludes and Fugues Op. 87
CHOPIN: 24 Preludes Op. 28
Russian pianist Yulianna Avdeeva was the First Prize winner of the 2010 International Chopin Piano Competition, which launched her to international fame as audiences discovered her passionate and virtuoso interpretations of Chopin’s music. Following celebrated recitals at the Salzburg Festival, Carnegie Hall and London’s Wigmore Hall, she comes to Houston with a fascinating program of Chopin’s revolutionary and poetic 24 Preludes juxtaposed with Shostakovich’s monumental Preludes and Fugues, the composer’s homage to J.S. Bach.
“well on her way to becoming a goddess of the keyboard… Avdeeva surpassed my lofty expectations.” — Boston Musical Intelligencer
“Avdeeva strikes chords with precision, every note perfectly tempered. Her pacing is born of intelligent feeling and clarity of thought”
— The Guardian
