Kevin Puts: Emily — No Prisoner Be
DACAMERA’s gala Opening Night brings reigning international opera diva Joyce DiDonato back to Houston in the genre-defying production, Emily — No Prisoner Be. Created in collaboration with the uniquely virtuosic Time for Three string trio and an award-winning design team, this re-imagining of the poetry and life of Emily Dickinson has thrilled audiences from Europe to Carnegie Hall. A strikingly original take on a centuries-old musical form, Pulitzer Prize composer Kevin Puts (Silent Night) notes, “this is not your grandmother’s song cycle.”
Composed for the astonishing talents of these Grammy-, Emmy -and Olivier Award winning artists, this music-theater tour-de-force hauntingly brings to life the fierce individuality of one of America’s greatest poets. Marking DiDonato’s first DACAMERA appearance, the one-night only Houston premiere is not to be missed.
Opening Night Underwriters
Sara and Bill Morgan
“DiDonato’s Emily was a fiercely intelligent, physically brazen woman. Her voice roared and bloomed with conviction…Time for Three tapped out their own percussion, played their violins like guitars and sang three-part harmony as they bowed.”
— The New York Times
